Stamping press installation in Lancaster by Beck & Pollitzer USA
Beck & Pollitzer USA is thrilled to announce the successful completion of a complex press installation project for the largest provider of steel and aluminium food cans and trays in the United States. The project took place in Lancaster, SC, and involved the installation of a Meca DACH-300 stamping press.
This machinery relocation project presented unique challenges and required meticulous planning and precise execution. The stamping press, weighing 132,000 lbs and measuring 240” L x 187” W x 112” H, had to be transported and installed inside the client’s facility. Our team began by offloading the press outside and moving it onto a platform specifically built next to the building for this purpose. To facilitate the press’s entry into the building, a section of the building’s side was removed, and a sturdy platform was constructed to skate the press inside.
Once inside the building, the team faced the intricate task of navigating the press through the facility. This process involved using an 80k rigger lift and two knuckle booms, which were crucial in managing the heavy load. The movement through the building required multiple pauses to reset heavy haul dollies, as there where a few turns involved to navigate through the building, adding a layer of complexity to the task. Despite these challenges, the team efficiently managed the operation without any significant delays.
The core of the installation involved using a 400-ton gantry system to rig the press upright and secure it in its designated position. This phase also included bolting four isolating pads to the base of the press to ensure stability and precision. Additionally, this machinery installation project included setting up the decoiler, which holds the materials to be stamped, and installing the rail to the upright platform for material handling.
The project spanned eight days and required a dedicated team of four skilled riggers and technicians. The equipment used for this installation included an 80k rigger lift, two knuckle booms, a 15k lift, and a 5k lift. Despite the mechanical nature of the work, with no electrical or piping tasks involved, the precision and coordination required were substantial.
Throughout the project, the team adhered to strict safety protocols, and there were no health or safety concerns reported. The meticulous planning and execution ensured that the project was completed without incidents, maintaining the highest standards of safety and efficiency.
Our client expressed great satisfaction with the outcome, praising the professionalism and effectiveness of the Beck & Pollitzer USA team. This project highlights our ability to handle complex and challenging installations and reinforces our commitment to delivering quality service that exceeds client expectations.
