This ThrowbackThursday shows the delivery of two 15-inch naval guns to the Imperial War Museum, UK, in 1968.
One of the guns had been previously mounted on the HMS Ramillies, whereas the other gun had been installed on both the HMS Resolution and the HMS Roberts during its time in service. Both guns were representative of the ‘dreadnought’ era of the British Navy and had both been fired during World War II.
Beck & Pollitzer transported the guns from their respective ships to the Imperial War Museum in May 1986. Each gun weight 97 tons, which was a significant load to both relocate and install at what would be their permanent home, on display outside the museum itself.
